    Benefits:

    Relief of Respiratory Tract Infections

Echinacea extract may provide relief from upper respiratory tract infections. A retrospective study of 1,280 children with bronchitis showed that treatment with echinacea juice accelerated the healing process compared to treatment with antibiotics, mainly because bronchitis is mostly a viral infection against which antibiotics are ineffective, and echinacea preparations stimulate the non-specific defenses that attack virus-infected cells.

    Anti-Candida Infection

Echinacea extract can enhance macrophage viability and increase the overall number of immune cells helps to avoid inflammation caused by Candida infections. Echinacea is also useful for people with chronic fatigue syndrome, which is often caused by or accompanied by Candida infections.

    Enhancement of Immunity

Polysaccharides and glycoproteins, the active ingredients of Echinacea, can promote the production and secretion of macrophages, γ-interferon, β-interferon, interleukin-2, and interleukin-6, and enhance the respiratory burst activity, thus further enhancing phagocytosis and improving the immune function.

Echinacea and its extracts can modulate Toll-like receptors, and in 2017, Fu et al. found that Echinacea extracts polarised mouse bone marrow-derived macrophages towards a classically activated macrophage phenotype through activation of the JNK signaling pathway, inducing macrophage activation and antigen presentation and exerting its anti-infective function.

    Antibacterial

Many studies have demonstrated the antimicrobial activity of Echinacea spp. and its preparations. Rizzello et al. tested Escherichia coli, Enterobacter aerogenes, Enterococcus dubliniensis, Yersinia pestis by disc diffusion and broth microdilution tests and showed that Echinacea spp. extracts inhibited the growth of most of the strains of the organisms.Jeschke et al. reported that syrups made from Echinacea spp. can be designated for the treatment of fevers, acute upper respiratory tract infections and acute pharyngitis. Sharma et al. confirmed the anti-respiratory effect of ethanolic extract of fresh Echinacea purpurea against respiratory tract infection strains using light and dark assays.

Stanisavljevic et al. The ethanol extract of Echinacea purpurea obtained by conventional and ultrasonic extraction showed inhibitory effects on most bacteria including Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Staphylococcus aureus. Han et al. found that Echinacea purpurea extract applied alone to treat the inflammatory response in mammary tissue of mice induced by multidrug-resistant Staphylococcus aureus significantly inhibited multidrug-resistant Staphylococcus aureus in a dose-dependent manner.

    Applications:

    For Health Products:

As a natural plant extract ingredient with immune-boosting, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, Echinacea extract is often added to health supplements to prevent and alleviate various diseases. For example, Echinacea extract is often included in supplements for upper respiratory tract infections such as colds, coughs and flu.

    In Cosmetics:

Echinacea extract is often used in cosmetics because of its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. For example, some creams, lotions, and serums often contain echinacea extract to help soothe sensitive skin, reduce oxidative and inflammatory reactions and protect skin health.

    For Feed Product:

Echinacea can replace antibiotics in livestock breeding to a certain extent, and its immune-enhancing activity and antiviral activity are comparable to that of Astragalus. Adding Echinacea extract to feed can enhance the immunity of livestock and poultry, reduce the use of antibiotics, and improve the quality of livestock and poultry products. Echinacea has a good curative effect on circovirus, a reproductive and respiratory syndrome in pigs, and infectious bursitis, infectious bronchitis, and atypical Newcastle disease in chickens. Adding Echinacea extract to feed can enhance the resistance of livestock and poultry, reduce the use of antibiotics, and enhance the quality of livestock products.
