    Dl un acétate de tocophéryle (vitamine E) est un terme général pour tocophérol (T) et triénophérol (Tocotrienol, T-3), qui sont des vitamines liposolubles. L’acétate de DL -α-tocophérol est largement présent dans les aliments d’origine animale et végétale, les aliments d’origine animale étant principalement du type da. Les huiles végétales contiennent plus d’acétate de DL -α-tocophérol, ce qui correspond à la teneur en acide linoléique et autres polyènes. L’acétate de DL -α-tocophéryle est un antioxydant pour les acides gras polyadénylés, qui se combine avec les phospholipides membranaires d’acides gras polyinsaturés (agpi) pour stabiliser la structure de la membrane, empêchant les agpi sur le biofilm et les enzymes contenant des radicaux de soufre dans la cellule d’être endommagés par des oxydants. Lorsque l’acétate de DL -α-tocophéryle est déficient, les agp sur la membrane érythrocytaire sont sujets à la peroxydation, causant des dommages à la membrane érythrocytaire et à l’hémolyse.
