Regulation of Intestinal Microflora

Zhou et al. studied the composition of blueberry anthocyanins and their effects on human intestinal flora. Liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) was used to isolate anthocyanins from blueberries, and then high-throughput sequencing and bioinformatics analyses were performed to observe the effects of blueberry anthocyanins on human intestinal microorganisms.

The results showed that blueberry anthocyanins could increase the diversity and abundance of human intestinal microorganisms. Yang Han et al. used high-fat chow to feed C57BL/6 mice with dietary supplementation of wild blueberries and blueberry anthocyanin extracts to study their effects on the intestinal flora of mice fed a high-fat diet.
