    Antibacterial and Antiviral

    Tapondjou et al. demonstrated that ursolic acid and hydroxyursolic acid have similar anti-inflammatory and antibacterial effects by acetic acid torsion assay and hot plate method assay. Ursolic acid inhibited the production of formylmethionyl-leucyl-phenylalanine (fMLP) and arachidonic acid-induced superoxide, respectively. Ursolic acid and fMLP were added to cell cultures, and ursolic acid dose-dependently inhibited tyrosine phosphorylation of 45ku protein induced by fMLP. Ursolic acid also possessed trypanocidal activity, and the activity of Trypanosoma cruzi flagellates was completely inhibited after incubation at a concentration of 2 g-L for 2h.

     

    Anti-Atherosclerosis

    Rosemary Extract Ursolic acid can reduce blood cholesterol (44%) and B-lipoprotein levels (50%) in rabbits and rats, with hypolipidemic and anti-atherosclerotic effects. Ursolic acid can improve dyslipidemia caused by liver and kidney yin deficiency, tinnitus, dry mouth, less sleep, irritability, numbness and coldness of the limbs, constipation, etc. The total effective rate of lipid efficacy is 95%.

     

    Antioxidant

    Rosemary Extract Ursolic acid is a strong antioxidant. Some experiments have shown that ursolic acid can inhibit 5-lipoxygenase and cyclooxygenase activities in the metabolism of arachidonic acid, preventing the production of prostaglandins and leukotrienes, which may be the reason why ursolic acid inhibits inflammation and lipid peroxidation. Subbaramaiah et al. have shown that ursolic acid inhibits transcription of cyclooxygenase in the human mammary epithelial cells, and also inhibits the production of prostaglandins as a result. The antioxidant effect of ursolic acid has a positive effect on human anti-aging, skin blemishes, and pigmentation.

In situ hybridization showed that the inhibitory effect of ursolic acid on TSCCa cells was related to the inhibition of in situ expression of nuclear transcription factors. In vivo tests proved that ursolic acid could significantly enhance the immune function of the body. This indicates that ursolic acid has a wide range of antitumor effects, and ursolic acid is very likely to become a new type of low-toxicity and effective anticancer drug.
